Peter's Story
What is one thing you have learnt from reflecting on Jesus’ life?
One of the most important things I’ve learnt from reading about the life of Jesus is love.
Love is so crucial in our lives as it helps us function as Christians and as a church. It motivates us to preach the truth of the gospel. It helps us to seek forgiveness and mercy. It fuels our relationships with the people around us. It shapes our everyday lives. And most importantly, through love, we obey God’s greatest commandment which is to love the LORD with all our hearts, soul, mind, and strength.
If we have lost love for God and our neighbours, we fail to function not only as Christians but also as a church. As Christians I realised that we require a balance in knowing the truth of the gospel as well as loving the LORD our God and his people. Without love, when we go out to preach the word of God it lacks grace, patience and compassion. We become nothing but a group of noisy people who meet up every Sunday and go around telling people to repent for judgement is coming.
We are not perfect. We are all sinful. We were enemies of God. Yet God loved us.
He loved us so much that he sent his one and only son to die for our sins on the cross. Once I realised how heavy the burdens of my sins were, my eyes were opened to the beauty of God’s love and grace.
As a follower of Christ, I’ve learnt the importance of learning how to love from the life of Jesus and the need to spread it to the people of the world. The Christian life is a lot of things put together, but the one essential aspect we cannot lose is love. Remember to love.
